In this role, you will work with students who face challenging and complex Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties. The successful candidate will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating to help students overcome barriers to learning and re-engage with their education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Individualised Support: Tailored assistance and guidance provided to meet the unique needs of a specific child.
- Behavioural Motivation: Inspire and motivate students to participate in their education, particularly those who exhibit challenging behaviour and disregulated emotions. Employ positive reinforcement techniques to encourage good behaviour.
- Collaborative Problem-Solving: Work closely with teachers and therapists to observe, identify, and address barriers to education. Develop and implement strategies that promote a positive learning environment.
- Emotional and Educational Support: Provide practical support that boosts students' self-confidence and fosters a strong motivation to learn. Engage with students on a personal level to understand and address their individual challenges.
- Crisis Management: Maintain composure and professionalism in challenging situations, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all students. Implement crisis intervention strategies as needed.
- Emotional Regulation: Use evidence-based strategies to help students manage and regulate their emotions in a constructive and positive manner, supporting their overall well-being.
- Experience: Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable young people in a support or mentor capacity, ideally within an educational setting.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with students, parents, and colleagues effectively.
- Teamwork: Strong ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to a positive and cohesive working environment.
- Qualifications: Relevant qualifications are desired but not required. A commitment to ongoing professional development is essential.
- Compliance: An enhanced DBS check and up-to-date safeguarding training are mandatory.
