Are you looking for a rewarding role supporting children with special educational needs? A specialist SEN school in High Wycombe is seeking a SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team at their School. This well-resourced setting provides a nurturing and inclusive environment for pupils aged 3-19 with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Speech, Language, and Communication Needs and Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities.
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping students with ASD and SLCN develop their communication skills, build social interactions, and engage with learning in a way that suits their individual needs. You’ll work closely with teachers, therapists, and other staff to implement tailored learning strategies, support alternative communication methods (such as PECS, Makaton, or AAC devices), and create a structured environment where students feel safe and supported.

Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with ASD and SLCN.
  • Assist in implementing individual learning plans and communication strategies.
  • Use alternative communication methods such as PECS, Makaton, or AAC devices.
  • Support sensory regulation and social interaction activities.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, speech therapists, and occupational therapists.
  • Assist with personal care, mobility, and sensory activities where required.
  • Help create a calm, structured, and engaging learning environment.
Requirements 🎓
  • Experience working with children with SEN, particularly ASD and SLCN.
  • Familiarity with communication tools such as PECS, Makaton, or AAC is a plus.
  • A patient, caring, and adaptable approach.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • A DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one.
  • Right to work in the UK.
