In this role, you'll work with secondary-aged students with moderate to severe learning difficulties, Autism, and Speech and Language needs. Collaborating with teachers and support staff, you'll help students overcome obstacles to learning, addressing both their educational and emotional needs. Your support will play a critical role in helping students re-engage with education and develop the skills they need for future success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored support to students in line with their Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Assist in the planning and delivery of customised lessons, interventions, and activities to engage students.
- Support students who may display challenging behaviour or experience emotional dysregulation, helping them to stay motivated in their education.
- Work closely with teachers and therapists to identify and address barriers to learning.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment where students feel supported both academically and emotionally.
- Assist with personal care as needed.
- Offer practical, emotional, and educational support to help build students’ self-confidence and love for learning.
- Experience working with young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is preferred.
- Good knowledge of strategies for supporting students with SEN, including Autism, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and Speech and Language challenges.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- A genuine passion for working with secondary-aged students with SEN.
- Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or social support are desirable but not required.
- An enhanced DBS on the update service.
- Up-to-date safeguarding training.
